Operation Round Up®
Operation Round Up® is an innovative community service fund raising program that gives members an easy way to help those in need. By allowing their electric bill to be ‘rounded up’ to the next dollar they can work together with other members to change lives. There are 231 cooperatives’ in 37 states that have similar programs. Funds in those programs have been used for a variety of things from helping local fire departments, ambulance services, schools, and individuals in need.
Members who have signed up to participate will notice their bills will include a line item showing the amount that has been ‘rounded up.’ All donations are tax deductible and every January and February a summary of yearly contributions will be included on the electric bills of all participating members.
Operation Round Up® is a community service program developed to gather voluntary contributions from participating members by ‘rounding up’ their monthly bills to the next dollar. For example, a monthly bill of $52.74 would be rounded up to $53.00. The additional .26 cents collected would be deposited into the special Round Up account along with all other participating member’s rounded up amounts. The amount collected goes into a special holding account on a quarterly basis and will be administered by the Operation Round Up® Association Board of Directors (the board) who will review applications for funds and determine how the collected funds will be disbursed. The donations will be available to local organizations and individuals requesting assistance. Funds may not be used for political purposes.
Operation Round Up® is an exciting extension of Big Horn REA's commitment to the people and the community which makes up our cooperative. Clearly, it’s a way for a few cents to make lots of sense. If you haven’t already signed up to contribute your cents it is not too late, just contact us at (800) 564-2419 or (307) 568-2419 or click on the form below and mail or fax it to our office..
